A mini college in a museum
Empowering Learners
to Re-Engage
Herbert Media is an Alternative Education Provider with a focus on supporting neuro-divergent young people. Based in the heart of the city, our courses are delivered in the digital media studios at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. Our programme is designed to empower learners to express themselves, to play together and develop work skills in the process. Our venue is both an inspiring and quiet space to learn, with small groups and differentiation to suit all abilities.
Our education programme is available to schools who have signed up for Coventry Alternative Provision but can also be commissioned directly, to find out more contact kerrie.suteu@cvlife.co.uk
Key outcomes
- Prepare challenging young people for further education, the workplace or volunteering
- Using creativity and cultural engagement to develop skills, confidence, experience and qualifications.
- Offer a range of vocational courses to support positive next steps and portfolio building
How We Do It
We created a mini college within The Herbert Museum & Art Gallery. We’re a smaller campus than a big college which enables easier transition from school to next steps. We recognize that neurodiverse people have great problem solving skills and are inspired by creative challenges.
Creating opportunities for learners to be off site and independently interacting with new people, both neurotypical and neuro diverse, helps them see beyond their current school life.

NEW COURSE: pathway into college
Game Changers
Our Games Design pathway is designed to support young people who are neurodiverse into Games Design courses. 85% of the current cohort at Coventry College are neuro diverse and it’s felt the other 15% are undiagnosed. People often think games design skills only apply to making video games, but the truth is far bigger. The core mechanics of game design—systems thinking, user experience (UX), 3D asset creation, and rapid prototyping—are highly sought after across massive global industries. Pathways into film, architecture, gamified education and eLearning production are possible.
Our education programme is built on the foundation that everyone deserves to play a meaningful role in society, and to improve
the employment statistics for people with disabilities.
Impact Case Study
Creative BridgesCreative Bridges explores ways to use cultural engagement to support young people with learning difficulties and/or social disadvantage to gain entry to the world of work. Our programme established a need to fill a gap in provision between statutory education and next steps – work, further study or volunteering.
